Homemade Vanilla

Vanilla

This is going to be a very quick post about what I just did.  I’ve been wanting to make homemade vanilla for at least a year or more and just haven’t gotten around to it.

I’ve had one vanilla bean sitting in my cabinet waiting to become something new.  A few months ago, I finally got husband to get a bottle of vodka for this purpose.  I have a few quiet moments.  And at the perfect time, I remembered all of this.   So… finally all of the key elements are in synchronicity.

Here it is:

1 Vanilla Bean

4 oz of Vodka

1 small glass jar

Put the vanilla bean in the jar.  Add the vodka.  Let it sit for 8 weeks.

Write the date on it so you don’t forget.

Vanilla

Then when it is half-used, fill it up with Vodka again to stretch it.  Four ounces of vanilla is alot!  How wonderful not to have to buy those tiny bottles again for a ridiculous price.

So…have any of you done this yet?  I’d love to hear how it went.

God Bless and Have a Merry Christmas!
